"Guillaume de Castelnau explains that his tiny lot of 2009 Chenas grew on the same vein of quartzite as in La Rochelle (an historically renowned site classified as Moulin-a-Vent) but one hillside removed (which also puts it cheek-by-jowl with Pironís noteworthy Chenas). This displays a lovely aromatic melange of blackberry, cherry, and red currant with lily and heliotrope perfume, all of which follow on a buoyant, salt-, underbrush-, and fruit pit-tinged palate. Despite my general reservations about such analogies, there is some resemblance to red Burgundy in the wineís combination of inner-mouth florality and juicy brightness with a subtly creamy texture. And make no mistake: if this exhilaratingly and profoundly persistent Beaujolais were Burgundian Pinot, it would be top-notch premier cru! Expect it to be a delight to follow for at least a half dozen years." - David Schildknecht, robertparker.com (Aug 30, 2010)
